Half a Dozen of the Summer's Cutest Donuts

Half a Dozen of the Summer's Cutest Donuts

There’s nothing we love more than a good dessert - except a dessert decorated with natural colors. Regular donuts might make you glaze over from boredom. That’s why we made these six decorated donuts, because we like to play with our food. You’ll want to be dunkin these donuts all summer long after reading these simple recipes. And because our food color is all natural, you won’t feel bad adding these pops of color to your favorite classic desserts.

1) Life’s a Beach

We had a grand time making this donut and we’re shore you will too. The best thing about it: it’s super easy to make, but looks like you slaved away in the kitchen. You can wave goodbye to Pinterest fails because with this foolproof decoration you can sit back, relax, and enjoy a taste of the beach.

What you’ll need:

Donut

Icing

Bowl for mixing icing

Natures Flavors All Natural Blue Food Color

Cocktail umbrella

Teddy Grahams graham crackers

Directions

Crush up the Teddy Grahams (sorry, guys!) into crumbs. Save one for later. In a bowl, add around five drops of Natures Flavors All Natural Blue Food Color. To create a marbled look, don’t blend the icing and the color all the way. Spread the icing across the surface of the donut. Add graham cracker crumbs to half of the donut, and place the lucky Teddy Graham on top. Add cocktail umbrella, and you’re all ready for a beach vacation.

2) Flour Power

Let your imagination run wild with this wildflower donut. We’re putting a whole new meaning to the idea of edible flowers. You can make a whole garden of these donuts, just make sure your decorations are anything but garden variety.

What you’ll need:

Donut

Icing

Frosting (for leaf decorations)

Bowl for mixing icing and frosting

Icing bag and tip

Natures Flavors All Natural Honeydew Food Color

Natures Flavors All Natural Cherry Food Color

Blackberry or fruit of choice for garnish

Directions:

You can get creative with your flower donut, or recreate our design. Ice the overall donut. Mix together icing and Natures Flavors All Natural Cherry Food Color until you achieve the desired color. We used about ten drops, then snuck in one drop of blue food color to make a deeper purple color. Next, add the icing to the icing bag and decorate the donut. Mix Natures Flavors All Natural Honeydew Food Color with frosting and using icing bag to draw out the petals on the flower. You’re done - stop and smell the roses (and eat some donuts).

3) One In a Melon

Watermelon’s a classic summer fruit, so we couldn’t keep it off the list of summer donuts. Seed for yourself how your donuts will delight wherever you choose to bring them, whether it be a party or just making them for yourself. And we wouldn't blame you - we want to make these again and again.

What you’ll need:

Donut

Icing

Bowl for mixing icing

Icing bag and tip

Natures Flavors All Natural Pink Food Color

Natures Flavors All Natural Honeydew Food Color

Directions:

Mix Natures Flavors All Natural Honeydew Food Color and icing until the desired color is reached - we used about ten drops. Once the honeydew color is evenly spread, apply Natures Flavors All Natural Pink Food Color over the honeydew color so that it's spread out in a circle. Add several more drops of the honeydew color to the original mixture in order to create the darker seeds. Next, use a dropper with the darker honeydew onto the pink frosting in order to create seeds. To finish it off, add a ring of regular icing around the rim to create the rind of the watermelon. Then cut yourself off a slice.

4) Gone Fishing

We had to reel ourselves in from not making a dozen of these little swimmers. Let your creativity bubble up when decorating this donut. You can use any colors and decorations you’d like: we think it’s the catch of the day.  Don’t skimp out on the frosting, either - we were practically swimming in it.

What you’ll need:

Donut

Icing

Bowl for mixing icing

Icing bag and tip

Natures Flavors All Natural Blue Food Color

Natures Flavors Organic Yellow Food Color

Orange

Directions:

Mix icing and Natures Flavors All Natural Blue Food Color together and ice the donut. We used a lot of blue - around 25 drops - to get the dark blue coloring, but you can use whatever color and amount you wish for your fish. There's no wrong way to do it. We mixed about five drops of blue food color to make the fish scales, and about five drops of Natures Flavors Organic Yellow Food Coloring for the alternate scales. Cut some orange wedges for the fins and just keep swimming.

5) Fine-apple

There’s nothing cuter than this tropical themed donut. You can take them to a pool party, a picnic, a beach day - just make sure there’s some left for other people by the time you get there. Yellow and bright, it’s a bright treat that’s almost too good to eat.

What you’ll need:

Donut

Icing

Bowl for mixing icing

Icing bag and tip

Natures Flavors All Natural Yellow Food Color

Natures Flavors All Natural Pumpkin Food Color

Natures Flavors All Natural Honeydew Food Color

Directions:

Mix ten drops of Natures Flavors All Natural Yellow Food Color with icing, and ice the donut. Then mix five to ten drops of Natures Flavors All Natural Pumpkin Food Color for the cross-hatching on the pineapple. Top it off with Natures Flavors All Natural Honeydew Food Color for the crown and you’re ready to eat like a king.

6) A Hole Lot Of Pride

Show off some spirit with this red, white, and blue beauty. Beyond easy to make, they’re perfect desserts for your 4th of July summer backyard barbeque. Round up some friends and pay tribute to the flag while giving your sweet tooth a fix.

What you’ll need:

Donut

Icing

Bowl for mixing icing

Icing bag and tip

Natures Flavors All Natural Cherry Food Color

Natures Flavors All Natural Blue Food Color

Directions:

Ice the entire donut in white. Let the icing harden for ten to fifteen minutes to make the white and blue colors easier to apply. Add ten to fifteen drops of Natures Flavors All Natural Cherry Food Color for the red stripes. About five drops of Natures Flavors All Natural Blue Food Color is enough for the blue portion. Drop on white frosting for the stars and raise a flag to your new dessert.
