Why You Should Try Chai
Imagine hopping on a plane and traveling somewhere deep into India. Maybe it’s New Delhi, maybe it’s Bombay, maybe it’s Mumbai, or even Hyderabad. In any case, there’s so many great Indian flavors to enjoy that are steeped deep in tradition, in culture, and in history. Whether it’s a great curry spice blend, garam masala, or chaat masala, we can’t get enough of the fragrant, unique spice blends that can easily transport us to a country of wonder, of excitement, and above all, flavor.
The list of commonly used spice blends in Indian culture is endless, each one even more fragrant and flavorful than the last. One more special blend we’d have to add to the list is masala chai. Though chai recipes differ from one city to the next, one family to the next, the base of this wondrous mix is typically green cardamom pods, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and black peppercorns. Other optional flavors that can be intertwined among the rest are star anise, coriander, and fennel seeds. And we know this mixture sounds kind of extreme at first, but, hang in there… don’t knock it till you chai it.
In some parts of the world, the word ‘chai’ actually refers to tea, itself. And while we like these great flavors of chai spices in tea, they also make for an even better coffee flavoring. HERE’S HOW TO DO IT

To easily flavor whole coffee beans with chai flavor, add about a half teaspoon of Chai Coffee and Tea Flavoring to one pound of whole coffee beans. In any container that has a tightly-fitting lid, shake coffee beans and flavor vigorously until beans are completely coated. Set aside for 24 hours for the chai flavor to be absorbed into the beans and to dry. After 24 hours have elapsed, grind your newly scented coffee beans and brew as you so choose.
