Latin Name: Citrus Sinensis

General Description: Native to the Far East, especially India and China, but has become well adapted to the mediterranean climate. It also grows abundantly in Israel and South America. The oil comes from the peel of the almost ripe fruit of the bitter orange tree, Citrus Aurantium, subspecies amara, is produced almost exclusively by expression. The odor is very peculiar, fresh and yet bitter in the sense of dry, but with a rich and lasting, sweet backnote. In Chinese medicine the orange peel is used to treat numerous ailments including anorexia and malignant breast sores. The oil is primarily used as a flavoring agent for both the food and beverage as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

How It's Made: The almost ripe outer peel is almost always cold pressed by hand or machine to produce the oil.

Safety Guidelines: This oil is non-toxic and will not irritate or sensitize the skin. Orange (Bitter Brazilian) Essential Oil should not be used directly on the skin. The oil should first be mixed with a diluting or carrier oil.
